The Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District has awarded a multimillion project to address severe shoreline erosion along Snow’s Cut in New Hanover County.
The project to stabilize the bank along the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway was awarded to heavy civil marine construction and highway bridge construction firm Cape Romain Contractors Inc. of South Carolina for $7,015,897.42, the district announced Tuesday.

“This project addresses ongoing, severe shoreline erosion along Snow’s Cut, a vital engineered waterway that connects the Cape Fear River to the sound waters of the AIWW,” Corps officials stated. “Erosion poses long-term risks to local infrastructure, navigation safety, and neighboring parklands.”
The shoreline will be stabilized through targeted measures designed to prevent the bank from failing further, protect public property, and “ensure the continued resilience” of the channel.”
Work is expected to begin in the heavily trafficked maritime channel in the coming months. The Corps said it will manage project oversight and quality assurance.
