Brunswick County Public Utilities on Monday lifted weekslong mandatory water use restrictions.
The county has upgraded from a stage 2 mandatory water conservation alert to a stage 1 voluntary water conservation alert, which means water usage adjustments are now voluntary.

Though the county remains under extreme drought, “encouraging trends in weather forecasts, source water amounts, and overall daily water usage have adequately reduced peak demands” for the county’s water supply, according to a release.
County water system customers, including those in unincorporated areas and towns served by the utility are asked to voluntarily follow an irrigation schedule that applies to automatic sprinkler systems for residential and commercial lawn and landscape irrigation. The voluntary irrigation schedule is applicable for residential and commercial lawn and landscaping, athletic fields, and golf courses that do not use private groundwater wells or reclaimed water.
Customers are asked to use no more than up to one inch of water per week through automatic irrigation systems, including spray and drip irrigation, between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. on designated days.
The voluntary schedule is as follows:
- Properties with odd-numbered addresses (ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) and non-addressed facilities may irrigate any time between 8 p.m. – 4 a.m. on Tuesday through Wednesday, Thursday through Friday and Saturday through Sunday.
- Those who live at even-numbered addresses (ending in 2, 4, 6, 8, 0) may irrigated during that same 8-hour period Wednesday through Thursday, Friday through Saturday and Sunday through Monday.
