County and N.C. Department Transportation representatives are holding the meeting in light of the July 24 closure of the highway, portions of which were rendered unsafe an impassable from the Basnight Bridge to Rodanthe because of significant flooding caused by intense rainfall.
According to NCDOT, some areas had seen as much as 7 inches of rainfall over the span of just 36 hours prior to the July 24 closure. The standing water was not the result of ocean overwash, officials said at the time.
