Climate change program to explore solutions at fall workshop

North Carolina State University is offering at no charge this fall a two-day conference on climate challenges and viable solutions.

The Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science, or KIETS, Climate Leaders Program‘s annual fall symposium, Think and Do: The Future of Climate Solutions, is scheduled for Oct. 7-8 in the James B. Hunt Jr. Library on the Centennial Campus in Raleigh. The agenda and registration form can be found on the N.C. State website.

This is the fifth year the climate leaders program, which allows students, faculty mentors and internship hosts to partner on developing solutions for mitigating and adapting to climate change, has hosted the symposium.

“Through this symposium, the KIETS Climate Leaders Program and NC State University’s Climate and Sustainability Academy (CaSA) are working together to amplify climate and sustainability collaboration, communication and innovation efforts across disciplines. We are integrating science, technology, education, design, management and the arts and humanities through engaged learning and problem-solving to empower current and future generations,” Organizers said.

According to the website, the symposium is to explore the following four themes:

• Climate science: Translating research, data and modeling into actionable strategies for resilience.
• Innovation and entrepreneurship: Launching climate-tech ventures, piloting market-driven ideas, and exploring opportunities.
• Buildings: Transforming green infrastructure, resilient design, and energy efficiency in the built environment.
• Textiles: Reimagining circular fashion, bio-based materials, and sustainable manufacturing processes.

Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science, N.C. State University’s Sustainability Fund, and the R.L. Rabb Science and Society Symposia endowment are funding the symposium.
