The sixth house to fall into the ocean in Rodanthe this year collapsed Thursday night, and Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials have temporarily closed the beach there to protect the public from the associated hazardous debris.
The National Park Service notified the public early Friday that the unoccupied structure at 23241 Surf Side Drive had crumbled into the ocean.

“Efforts to respond to and begin cleanup operations is currently limited due to severe weather conditions and the closure of N.C. Highway 12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe,” officials said, adding that they are communicating with the owners.

Visitors are being urged to avoid the beach and ocean for potentially many miles to the south of Rodanthe because of hazardous debris.
Threatened, unoccupied structures at G A Kohler Court and Sea Oats Drive are being monitored during the severe weather affecting the Outer Banks this weekend.
