Moores Creek National Battlefield in Pender County will be closed Sunday as a safety measure while a controlled burn is conducted in the park.
The controlled burn is a joint, multi-agency burn involving resources from the National Park Service, the Nature Conservancy and Currie Woods LLC, according the National Park Service.

The areas include the Savannah behind the visitor center and other areas to the immediate southwest, including portions of the History Trail and Tar Heel Trails.
The primary objectives for the burns are hazard fuel reduction, maintaining historical and cultural landscapes, and restoring and maintaining fire adapted ecosystems.
