The National Marine Fisheries Service has extended the deadline for public comment on proposed incidental harassment authorizations under the Marine Mammal Protection Act during seismic surveys off the Atlantic Coast.
In response to requests for more time, comments are now due no later than July 21, 15 days beyond the original deadline announced June 6.
Only comments relevant to marine mammal species that occur in U.S. waters of the Mid- and South Atlantic and the potential effects of geophysical survey activities on those species and their habitat will be considered. The agency said comments indicating general support for or opposition to hydrocarbon exploration or any comments relating to hydrocarbon development, such as leasing or drilling, are not relevant and will not be considered.
Comments on the application should be addressed to Jolie Harrison, Chief, Permits and Conservation Division, Office of Protected Resources, National Marine Fisheries Service. Comments should be sent by mail to 1315 East-West Highway, Silver Spring, MD 20910, or by email to ITP.Laws@noaa.gov. All personal identifying information (e.g., name, address) voluntarily submitted by the commenter may be publicly accessible. Do not submit confidential business information or otherwise sensitive or protected information.
All comments received are a part of the public record and will generally be posted online without change here.
