Work is ramping up on the Wrightsville Beach bridge replacements project as crews install erosion control devices and prepare to relocate utility lines at the West Salisbury Street bridge over Lees Cut.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has installed signs alerting residents that the westbound shoulder of West Salisbury Street (U.S. Highway 74) will be closed beginning Oct. 27 near the bridge and Pelican Drive.

“The farthest east Pelican Drive access point to West Salisbury Street may be intermittently impacted while this works take place,” according to DOT officials.
The department will send out more updates as work progresses.
The estimated $105 million project also includes replacement of the South Banks Channel Bridge on Causeway Drive (U.S. Highway 76) and is anticipated to be completed between 2030 and 2032.
