The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has opened the public comment period for proposed changes for 2027-28 hunting, fishing and game land regulations.
The agency reviews and adjusts seasons, bag limits and land management rules, as needed, annually to comply with changes in the law, achieve conservation management goals, and respond to constituent requests and suggestions.

The proposed changes are broken down by category, including wildlife management, inland fisheries, land and water access, wildlife education (shooting ranges), and endangered, threatened, and special concern species.
Comments will be accepted through Sept. 14 online, by email to regulations@wildlife.gov, include name, county and state of residence, or by mail to Rulemaking Coordinator, 1701 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-1701.
The commission has also scheduled virtual public hearings on the proposed changes.

The proposed changes will be discussed and considered at the Wildlife Resource Commission Commissioners’ October meeting.
Most of the rules, if adopted, will take effect Aug. 1, 2027 in time for the 2027-28 inland fishing, hunting, and trapping seasons.
“A few approved rules would have a January 1, 2027 effective date,” according to officials.
