
Expect a greater military presence in the coming days as Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, its outlying fields and training areas will be part of a variety of training operations.
Air station officials said Friday that the exercises would continue through the rest of month.

Marines will be conducting parachute operations at Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field Oak Grove in Jones County as late as midnight Aug. 21.
The 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit will conduct training Aug. 24-28 involving both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft at Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field Atlantic in Carteret County and surrounding training areas.
Residents near the airfield in Atlantic and the surrounding areas should expect increased activity including military vehicle traffic and aircraft noise. The training could go as late as midnight during the period.
Then, on Aug. 24, amphibious operations will begin in the waterways associated with MCAS Cherry Point. This includes Bombing Target 11, or BT-11 and aka the Piney Island Range, in Pamlico Sound as late at midnight.
Explosives Ordnance Disposal Marines will train at MCAS Cherry Point, and the neighboring community may hear occasional loud explosions at the air station.
