The North Carolina Secretaries’ Science Advisory Board is tentatively set to hear a series of presentations related to PFAS during its meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
The board’s draft agenda includes a presentation by Dr. Virginia Guidry with the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on a recent methodology for calculating fish consumption PFOS advisories, a review by Dr. Frannie Nilsen with the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality on available PFMOAA toxicity, and an overview of available literature on dermal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

The board includes experts in toxicology, public health, ecology, engineering, and other related fields, who assist DHHS and DEQ by recommending reviews and evaluations of contaminants, act as consultants on DEQ’s determinations to regulate contaminants, and help the agencies identify contaminants of concern and determine which contaminants should be further studied.
