Residents and visitors are advised that training will be taking place at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, its outlying fields and training areas the remainder of the month.
Amphibious training will take place in and around the Cherry Point waterways and into and out of Bombing Target 11 at Piney Island in the Pamlico Sound Thursday and Friday. The training will include live-ammunition exercises, base officials said Monday.
Supporter Spotlight
Throughout the week of Sept. 21, underwater remedial environmental investigations and munitions response activities will take place at Bombing Target 2 at Cat Island in the Bogue Sound. These activities may include terrestrial and underwater detonations.
Explosives Ordnance Disposal Marines will be conducting explosives training at MCAS Cherry Point. The neighboring community may hear occasional loud explosions at the air station.
The public should follow all posted warnings and safety instructions.
