The North Carolina Division of Coastal Management is hosting a public hearing Sept. 29 to accept comments on a federal proposal to update training activities and operations within the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Range Complex in Carteret County.
Under the proposal, training activities, including aircraft, unmanned systems, and watercraft operations would be added and increased within the range.

Changes under the proposal would not affect the overall size of the range complex and existing special-use airspace, but restricted water areas would be expanded near Bombing Targets-9 and 11, including a permanent 500-foot safety buffer around BT-11.
The public hearing is set for 5-7 p.m. at Carteret Community College, 303 College Circle, CMAST Room 410 in Morehead City.
The division will accept written comments of the federal consistency determination request through Oct. 15. Comments may be submitted by mail to Federal Consistency Coordinator, 400 Commerce Ave., Morehead City, NC 28557, or by email to federalconsistencycomments@deq.nc.gov with “Federal Consistency: USMC MCAS Cherry Point” in the subject line.
Written comments and those recorded at the public hearing will be considered in developing the state’s consistency response. The division’s review will determine if the proposed project is consistent with the enforceable policies of the state’s Coastal Management Program.
The division will provide a notice of its decision upon request.
