The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has scheduled an online informational meeting for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, to update the public on the Red Wolf Recovery Program.
Fish and Wildlife officials said the session will cover topics such as recovery efforts for the species, the status of recovery efforts in the eastern North Carolina red wolf population area, coyote-management strategies, and future planning efforts for the recovery of the species.

“With interest in the Red Wolf Recovery Program spanning areas across the historic range of the species, we invite all to attend this virtual informational meeting,” officials said in the announcement Friday.
Service officials encourage participants to submit their questions in advance during the registration process, to assist in planning their presentation. Questions will also be taken live online. Register online.
Officials said the meeting is part of their continuing efforts to increase communication and transparency on red wolf recovery.
America’s red wolf, which officials defined as a distinct canid species native to the United States, is one of the most imperiled species of canids in the world. At one time they were declared extinct in the wild, but officials said recovery efforts have set the stage for several subsequent large carnivore reintroduction efforts across the nation.
Successful recovery for the red wolf will require collaborative efforts with landowners, partners, and other interested parties to advance solutions that support rural livelihoods and working lands while contributing to the species’ recovery.
