The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded an $8.67 million contract for the first phase of the Wrightsville Beach bridge replacement project.
Balfour Beatty was awarded the contract for phase 1 of the project, which includes building the smaller bridge on West Salisbury Street over Lees Cut and relocating a water line.

Before construction of the new bridge may begin, crews will have to relocate the water line, a job that is expected to begin this month and take four to eight weeks to complete, according to an NCDOT release.
While residents can expect to see construction equipment on Pelican Drive and along the shoulder of West Salisbury Street (U.S. 74), most work will occur outside the travel lanes and is not expected to impact traffic.
Once the water line is relocated, West Salisbury Street over Lees Cut will close fully for construction.
DOT will notify the public of an official closure date.
The overall estimated $105 million project also includes replacement of the South Banks Channel Bridge on Causeway Drive (U.S. 76) and is anticipated to be complete between 2030 and 2032.
