North Carolina State University researchers are hosting an open house-style research fair to share their findings from an Outer Banks-based community co-development project that was more than two years in the making.
The 2 1/2 year project aimed to better understand residents’ connections to their Outer Banks communities, how flooding and storms shape decisions about the future, and how enhanced storm modeling with adaptation strategies may help communities plan ahead.

Researchers invite residents from Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras, Ocracoke, Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo to explore interactive flood modeling stations, ask questions and share their perspectives. Hands-on activities will be also be available for youth of all ages.
The research fairs will be hosted 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Ocracoke Community Center, 999 Irvin Garrish Highway, and again from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hatteras Community Center, 57689 N.C. Highway 12.
