One lane of a portion of a well-traveled highway in Brunswick County will remain closed for about three weeks while state transportation crews conduct bridge maintenance.
The right eastbound land of U.S. 74/76, also known as Andrew Jackson Highway, over Hood Creek near Leland was closed at 8 a.m. Thursday, according to a N.C. Department of Transportation release.

Crews will be conducting maintenance work on the bridge “to extend the life of the structure and ensure the continued safety of the traveling public,” DOT officials said in a release.
Officials anticipate reopening the lane by 5 p.m. Oct. 16, but caution that weather may prompt delays or rescheduling.
Motorists are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling through the work zone.
