The state has launched a new online guide on the Topsail Nature Preserve that highlights public access, responsible recreation, management and stewardship efforts.
Now the Topsail Nature Preserve, which is at the southern end of Topsail Island in Pender County, on land known as “The Point” was the focus of a conservation effort that culminated with North Carolina Costal Land Trust purchasing the property.

Found on the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s website, the web-based resource follows the transition of the property in May from the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust to Division of Coastal Management.
“The Topsail Nature Preserve is an extraordinary coastal resource, and its long-term protection depends on both thoughtful management and responsible stewardship by those who enjoy it,” division Director Tancred Miller said. “This new online resource gives the public an easy way to learn about the Preserve, plan a visit, understand how to enjoy it responsibly and join us in protecting it for future generations.”
The webpage includes information about the preserve’s natural resources, public access and visitor information, rules and guidelines for responsible use, division management and stewardship efforts, protecting sensitive habitats and wildlife, management updates and future stewardship opportunities.
The division said it would update the page as additional information and resources become available.
Management of the preserve builds upon conservation efforts led by the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust and reflects continued collaboration among the division, the town of Topsail Beach, conservation organizations and other state and local partners, officials said.
