
The Two Rivers Saponi-Occoneechee Association is hosting this month an Indigenous-led conversation on environmental justice.
The three-hour webinar set to begin at 11 a.m. July 18 “centers Indigenous knowledge systems, lived experience, and community-led solutions to environmental justice,” organizers said. The program is being offered at no charge but attendees are asked to register for the webinar through an online form.

The Two Rivers Saponi-Occoneechee Association is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the Saponi and Occoneechee Indigenous American community within Mecklenburg and Brunswick Counties in North Carolina, and Greensville County in Virginia. the Saponi and Occoneechee peoples have a long history in the region of North Carolina, Virginia and surrounding areas.
The webinar is to explore uplifting Indigenous knowledge and stewardship practices, examine environmental injustices impacting land, water and communities, create space to identify projects and systems that have caused harm, and highlight the original inhabitants of Mecklenburg and Brunswick counties, and Greensville County in Virginia, organizers continued.

- Hannah Jeffries, North Carolina Climate Justice Collective Fellow, Meherrin Indian Tribe.
- Toniekia Poole, owner of Native Roots Farm, LLC, Occoneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, Meherrin Indian Tribe.
