
A wildfire that spread more than 280 acres in Brunswick County over the weekend was ignited by a lightning strike, fire officials confirmed.
The Quarry Road fire that started on Friday in Shallotte is 50% contained, according to the latest information from the North Carolina Forest Service.

Firefighters are continuing to reinforce fire lines and complete mop-up operations, which involve extinguishing or removing material near control lines, felling snags and trenching logs to prevent them from rolling after an area has burned.

The fire has resulted in one minor injury, which was reported on Friday and involved a firefighter who was treated on the scene, and has damaged a commercial self-storage building, a residential storage building, and some commercial work trucks and heavy equipment, according to the latest update.
