Celebrate the strength and resiliency of Hatteras Islanders at this year’s annual Day at the Docks, a free, two-day event in September.
Now in its 23rd year, Day at the Docks showcases the traditions of Hatteras Island watermen and those who live in the community by sharing with visitors how the fishing industry works. The event highlights the community’s recovery from Hurricane Isabel in 2003.

The “Spirit of Hatteras” celebration is set to kick off Friday, Sept. 18, with Seafood Under the Stars, a chef prepared, five-course dinner with optional wine pairings featuring locally sourced seafood. This year’s dinner includes an nonseafood option for those who don’t fancy seafood.
Seafood Under the Stars is $60 or $80 for those who prefer to add a wine pairing. The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Hatteras Civic Center and is limited to 120 seats.

On Saturday, Sept. 19, the celebration begins at 10 a.m. where festivalgoers are invited to witness the Blessing of the Fleet, tour boats, see exhibits and competitions, sample local seafood, and shop for unique gifts for sale by vendors. Kid-specific activities include a fishing tournament, games, crafts and a bounce house areas.
Participants may register for the Fishy 5K Fun Run, which begin at 8 a.m.
