OUTER BANKS — Ocracoke and Hatteras islands will be open to visitors starting at noon Friday, according to officials of Hyde and Dare counties.
Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative announced Thursday that power had been restored to all of Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.

Dare County in statement explained that CHEC has assured officials that reliable and adequate power is available to enable the return of visitors.
The Hyde County Board of Commissioners has determined that the State of Emergency will remain in effect due to the personal and economic losses faced by members of the Ocracoke community, county officials said.
The Department of Transporation’s Ferry Division was to resume full summer operations Friday, replacing the modified schedule that had been put in place over the past week.
Hatteras Island and Ocracoke island lost power in the early hours of July 27, when a crew from PCL Construction damage underground power lines on the northern tip of Hatteras Island while working on the new Bonner Bridge. The damage severed power to both islands, which were then evacuated.
