The Emerald Isle Police Department warns beachgoers in a Facebook post Jan. 9 to keep an eye out for the Portuguese men-of-war being spotted along the beach in this Bogue Banks town. “So when you’re out walking our beautiful beach, do not touch or step on these creatures as they can still be harmful,” the post says.
