See what happens at the Coastal Studies Institute and East Carolina University Integrated Coastal Programs during the annual open house at the ECU Outer Banks Campus on Roanoke Island.
Scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, the public can tour the campus, grounds and facilities, learn about current research and education programs, take part in family-friendly activities and interact with faculty and staff.

The Coastal Studies Institute is a multi-institutional research partnership led by ECU, in association with North Carolina State University, the universities of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wilmington, and Elizabeth City State University.
ECU’s Integrated Coastal Programs is an interdisciplinary unit that focuses on coastal research and education.
The research and education initiatives of the two programs span a variety of coastal topics from nearshore coastal estuaries to the offshore waters along the continental shelf.
During the open house, visitors can meet a range of faculty and staff including coastal geoscientists, ecologists who study estuarine systems, maritime archaeologists researching and discovering new shipwrecks, oceanographers and coastal engineers, and social scientists who work with coastal residents, visitors and relevant social statistics.
