The virtual event begins at 6 p.m. Aug. 6 via Zoom with a coastal social featuring music and a special toast. At 6:30 p.m. the awards program will begin to honor Pelican Award recipients, people and organizations being recognized for their exemplary coastal stewardship.
The federation, a member-supported organization that works to protect and restore the coast, has in years past held its annual Pelican Awards, a celebration of the coast and coastal stewards, in Morehead City. More than 500 supporters would gather for the awards ceremony and taste of the coast.
Among the awards, Coastal Review Online will be presenting this year an award for Dedicated Service to Coastal Community Journalism. In 2019, Coastal Review recognized Port City Daily a Pelican Award for Diligent, Vigilant Reporting on Coastal Environmental Issues.
Tickets are $20 for federation members and $25 for nonmembers. Register online. All ticket holders will also be entered into a drawing for a virtual door prize.
Bidding is open now for the online auction. The auction will be completely online this year, and will close at 8 p.m. after the awards program. Items include art, jewelry and the popular fishing trip with federation founder Todd Miller.
