Course content, materials and delivery are in Spanish. The training is through the Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, program, and offered in partnership by the New Hanover County offices of Diversity and Equity and Emergency Management and North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
“We are very excited about this opportunity to collaborate with our emergency partners, both locally and from the state, to bring this incredibly important training to our community,” New Hanover County Chief Diversity Officer Linda Thompson said. “The CERT program allows individuals to learn valuable skills so they can help respond and assist their community in times of need. Having people who are trained in this program and have the ability to communicate in Spanish is a vital resource that will allow us to help as many people as possible when the moment comes.”
CERT is a national program that was initially developed to train citizens so they could help their communities in the aftermath of disaster when first responders were overwhelmed or unavailable
