The campground at Pettigrew State Park in Creswell will close Jan.1, 2023, so new campground facilities can be built and existing campsites updated.
The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation announced the project Monday. Work is expected to take up to a year to complete.

The park is currently a 13-site campground that does not offer hookups for recreational vehicles.
The project will include the refurbishing existing campsites and the construction of new facilities and amenities, including an Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible shower house, two camper cabins and five RV sites with full hookups.
This project was funded with $2.5 million in Connect NC bonds.
Renovations will update the park office and display area, which highlights an Algonquian canoe found in Lake Phelps.
