The Currituck-Knotts Island ferry route will be out of service Wednesday while crews retrieve the M/V James B. Hunt, which has been undergoing routine maintenance.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation Ferry Division said service is expected to resume Thursday.

The Currituck crew on Aug. 18 took the M/V James B. Hunt to the state shipyard in Manns Harbor for routine scheduled maintenance and returned to Currituck with the M/V Frisco to use in the interim.
On Wednesday, the crew is expected to take the M/V Frisco back to the shipyard and return to Currituck with the serviced M/V James B. Hunt.
