Work is expected to begin this summer to replace two bridges in Craven County.
Sanford Contractors Inc. of Lemon Springs was awarded the $13.8 million contract this month to replace the two bridges deemed structurally deficient on Maple Cypress Road and over the Neuse River in Vanceboro, the North Carolina Department of Transportation announced Monday.

The contractor may begin work as early as July and is expected to finish the project late 2024.
