State Department of Transportation officials are asking for public feedback by Sept. 14 on two proposed design alternatives to upgrade a section of U.S. 70 to interstate standards between Thurman Road and the Havelock Bypass in Craven County.
Alternative A would construct interchanges with U.S. 70 passing over cross streets, while Alternative B would construct interchanges with U.S. 70 passing under cross streets. Project details, including maps of the proposals are on on the NCDOT project web page. The project, State Transportation Improvement Program Project No. R-5777C, is one of several NCDOT projects along the U.S. 70 Corridor.

Due to COVID-19, NCDOT will not host an in-person public meeting or formal presentation. Instead, the department has developed a series of videos to provide an overview of the project, a narrated visualization about the project area and how to navigate project maps, showing the design improvements and project details.
