SWANSBORO — Most facilities at Hammocks Beach State Park that have been closed because of Hurricane Florence damage are to be open and operational beginning Aug. 30, the park announced last week.
Ferry service to Bear Island will leave the mainland every 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday to Monday, Sept. 2. There will be no ferry service Tuesday, Sept. 3. The September ferry schedule will begin Wednesday, Sept. 4, running hourly beginning at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday with the last ferry departing Bear Island at 5 p.m.

Huggins Island will be open for day visits, but Jones Island will remain closed to visitors due to dock damage.
Those looking to camp on the undeveloped island can make reservations online and at the call center for the night of Aug. 30 forward, holiday minimums for the Labor Day weekend apply. The bathhouse with drinking water, restroom facilities and showers for campers will be open.
