MOREHEAD CITY – The Crystal Coast Waterkeeper program is set to host Jan. 18 an evening of education, information and visioning for area watersheds.
Larry Baldwin, Waterkeeper for the Crystal Coast Waterkeeper program and executive director of Coastal Carolina Riverwatch and the White Oak-New Riverkeeper Alliance in Jacksonville, will lead the event set for 6:30-8 p.m. at the Morehead City Train Depot, 1001 Arendell St. There is no cost to attend.

The session is to include an update on the three organizations’ activities in protecting area waters from pollution. Attendees will have opportunity to meet members of the Waterkeeper team, board members and representatives from other local organizations and Christian Breen, the North Carolina field coordinator for Waterkeeper Alliance.
Topics to be discussed include the following:
- Concentrated animal feeding operations, or CAFOs
- Offshore drilling and seismic exploration for offshore oil and gas
- Marine debris
- Plastics in our water
- Development
- General water quality
The session is planned as an “open forum” atmosphere with a focus on water quality monitoring.
