Dare County officials announced Friday that the public library in Manteo had to close temporarily because of extensive flooding on Burnside Drive and surrounding side streets.
The flooding was caused by a storm that arrived Thursday with rainfall that continued overnight.

“The area is currently unsafe for pedestrian traffic and low-lying vehicles and should be avoided,” officials said in the announcement.
The Manteo Library will remain closed until water levels return to a safe level and access to the facility is restored, officials said.
Once the library can reopen to the public, information will be posted on Facebook.com/DareCountyLibrary.
Library officials encouraged patrons to check out the variety of digital resources available online.
