On Oct. 25, 1774, 51 women in Edenton wrote a resolution to boycott British imports, including tea and cloth, and sent it to England.
America 250 NC commemoration and the Friends of the Archives are recognizing that move believed to be organized by Penelope Barker, wife of the treasurer of the Province of North Carolina, along with the rise of women’s participation in North Carolina politics over the last 250 years.
