State insurance officials are meeting this week to address what they call the “harmful and growing issue” of insurance fraud crime and share how the public can protect themselves.
The insurance fraud town hall is planned to begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the North Carolina Cooperative Extension-Pasquotank County Center Building in Elizabeth City.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, and representatives from the North Carolina Department of Insurance fraud control group, criminal investigations division, Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program, or SHIIP, and other community leaders are expected to attend.
Town halls were held earlier this year in Leland, Rockingham and Hillsborough. Plans are to offer more of these workshops across the state throughout the course of the year.
“With scams and frauds taking a greater toll on Americans than ever before, I encourage everyone in the community to attend and learn the ways they can protect themselves from the disastrous effects of scams,” Causey in a statement.
