As the busy summer season begins, there will be four daily trips offered by the Swan Quarter-Ocracoke and Cedar Island-Ocracoke ferries, North Carolina Transportation Department officials said Monday.
Beginning Tuesday, ferries from Cedar Island to Ocracoke will depart at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily. From Ocracoke to Cedar Island, ferries will depart at 7:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. daily.

From Swan Quarter to Ocracoke, ferries will depart at 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily. From Ocracoke to Swan Quarter, ferries will depart at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. daily.
These ferry routes will return to the off-season schedule of three daily round trips Sept. 11. A full ferry schedule and seasonal changes are listed on the ferry system’s website.
Officials recommend reservations during summer, which can be made online at www.ncferry.org, or by calling 1-800-BY-FERRY.
Pedestrians can travel to Ocracoke via Hatteras by taking the Ocracoke Express passenger ferry. This ferry makes three roundtrips daily between Hatteras and Ocracoke Village and also accepts reservations.
The Hatteras-Ocracoke vehicle ferry route will continue running 36 scheduled departures each day, with additional unscheduled departures added when possible during high traffic demands. No reservations are accepted on the Hatteras vehicle ferry.
