BRUNSWICK COUNTY – Offshore drilling opponents here plan to hold a rally next week and urge county commissioners to support a resolution opposed to offshore drilling and seismic exploration for oil and natural gas.
The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners in summer 2016 passed a resolution in support of seismic exploration and offshore drilling.

“We need to help our commissioners change their minds,” stated Neil Gilbert, president of the Brunswick Environmental Action Team, or BEAT, in an email earlier this week.
BEAT is set to hold a rally at 5 p.m. Tuesday outside the David Sandifer Building at the County Government Complex in Bolivia, where commissioners are to meet at 6 p.m.
The group, which formed in March 2017 and now has at least 423 members, said two county commissioners now oppose seismic exploration and offshore drilling. One more commissioner is needed to support a new resolution reversing the board’s stance.
