Photographer Jim Snyders captured this image, “Showing Dominance,” in May on Carrot Island near Beaufort.

“After a short boat ride from the Beaufort waterfront over to Carrot Island I started walking one of the trails. It wasn’t long until I spotted a small herd of wild horses grazing on marsh grass in the distance. After getting a little closer I could see there was potential for some action shots. In order to keep my distance and capture some images I put on my 300mm lens and patiently waited for the right moment,” Jim said in his submission.
