Ferry operations and tram service on Bald Head Island were suspended as of 9 a.m. Friday to allow crews to remove and relocate a ferry that ran aground the previous day.
The Patriot, an 82-foot twin-hulled catamaran, was ferrying 105 passengers when it grounded at the entrance to the south side of the island around 7 a.m. Thursday, according to area media reports.

Passengers were safely moved from the vessel to an island terminal by Coast Guard-Oak Island and TowBoatU.S. crews, according to WECT. No one was injured.
The Wilmington-based television news outlet later reported that officials had, upon inspection, found a steel cable snagged on the ferry’s starboard propellor.
The Coast Guard was investigating.
Ferry operation updates will be provided on Bald Head Island Transportation’s website.
