
The State Archives is commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge with a virtual lunch and learn program, “Marching Toward Revolution.”
The talk on the first decisive victory was fought northwest of Wilmington in present-day Pender County, on Feb. 27, 1776, is scheduled for noon Thursday. Register in advance on Zoom.

The State Archives, a division of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, is hosting the program featuring archivists Alison Thurman, Josh Hager and Katie Crickmore.

The three are to discuss North Carolina’s advance toward the Revolution, including details about the Committees of Safety, Josiah Martin’s flight and the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge itself, fought between loyalists, mostly Scottish immigrants, and the patroits.
“This battle marked the last broadsword charge by Scottish Highlanders and the first significant victory for the Patriots in the American Revolution,” according to Moores Creek National Battlefield’s website.
