North Carolina Department of Transportation officials are hosting an open house and public hearing Tuesday on the proposed Jacksonville Parkway extension.
Transportation officials will be available to answer questions and receive comments on the proposed project, which would include a roughly 4-mile-long roadway that would extend Jacksonville Parkway from N.C. Highway 53 (Western Boulevard) to U.S. 17 (New Bern Highway).

The project would “improve overall mobility in the area, alleviate traffic congestion and provide alternative routes for drivers,” according to NCDOT.
An open house is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Jacksonville Commons Elementary School, 1121 Commons Drive North. The public hearing will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation, which will be livestreamed.
Transportation officials will be on hand to answer questions and receive both verbal and written comments on the proposed alternatives. Alternative 3 in the map above is deemed the preferred alternative.
Comments on the proposed project will be accepted through Nov. 28 by phone by dialing 984-205-6615 and entering code 10888 or at jacksonville-parkway-extension@publicinput.com.
Those who require auxiliary aids and services under the Americans with Disabilities Act who wish to participate in the workshop should contact Emily Richards at 919-707-6014 as early as possible.
