
Duke Energy’s Brunswick Nuclear Plant will test its outdoor warning sirens on Wednesday.
All 38 sirens within 10 miles of the plant near Southport will sound at full volume for five to 30 seconds, according to a release. Testing will be held between 10 and 11 a.m.

Some sirens may be tested more than once to ensure they are properly functioning. Follow-up tests may be held after 11 a.m. after siren maintenance.
Testing is performed in cooperation with officials in Brunswick and New Hanover counties responsible for sounding the sirens.
Local broadcasting stations do not interrupt regular programming to broadcast emergency alert system messages for siren tests, however, during a real emergency when the plant is required to sound the sirens, local radio and television stations would broadcast information and instructions to the public
