MANTEO – The single-lane closures currently on U.S. Highway 64 between Nags Head and Manteo in Dare County will be extended approximately three-quarters of a mile to the west next week, state transportation officials announced Thursday.
The lane closures are necessary to allow Dare County workers to perform maintenance on culvert pipes under the highway, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Officials said the work is expected to take two to three weeks to complete, if weather permits.
As the work continues, the right lanes and shoulders in both directions will be closed to allow room for the equipment and materials needed to perform the culvert work.
The speed limit in the work zone will remain 45 mph.
