North Carolina Department of Transportation staff are working on the next long-range capital plan and want to know which projects are a priority for the public.
The State Transportation Improvement Program, or STIP, identifies construction and funding schedules for projects over a 10-year period. Updated every two years, the STIP being developed is for 2026-2035, NCDOT said.

Comments can be submitted until Wednesday, July 17, through an interactive, online survey. Comment period began June 17.
Projects range from interstate improvement to a new turn lane or intersection improvement, and can be for any type of transportation, including highways, aviation, bicycle & pedestrian, ferry, public transportation and rail.
Though the drop-in sessions across the state have already taken place, the public can comment by phone, email, mail or with a visit to their district’s NCDOT office.
Division 1 includes Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Martin, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington counties.

Division 2 includes Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Greene, Jones, Lenoir, Pamlico and Pitt counties.

Division 3 includes Brunswick, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender and Sampson counties.

This comment period is not for maintenance-related projects, such as patching potholes, resurfacing, or ditches. NCDOT uses a different method to prioritize maintenance projects., officials said.
