Drivers should anticipate heavy congestion at times while work is underway to mill, patch and resurface several miles of N.C. Highway 50 in Surf City, transportation officials said Thursday.
Contract crews began work on the roadway, also known as South Shore Drive/ South Topsail Drive, earlier this week.

Crews started the project at the northern end, Kinston Avenue, and will continue four miles south to Hispaniola Lane. Work is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and anticipated to be complete by mid-May.
To complete the work, crews will close one of two lanes.
