The Ocracoke Express passenger ferry midweek schedule has been extended through this month.
While the passenger ferry service was initially going to end for this season on Labor Day, the Ocracoke Express will continue to operate its current schedule every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, which are the busiest days for ridership, until Sept. 28, North Carolina Department of Transportation officials said Friday.

The ferry will leave from Hatteras at 9:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. and from Ocracoke at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Now in its fifth season, the Ocracoke Express transports visitors on a 70-minute trip between Hatteras and Silver Lake Harbor in Ocracoke Village, where there is a free tram operated by Hyde County. The passenger-only ferry allows visitors to make reservations and avoid the lines typically found on vehicle ferry routes.
Advance reservations for the Ocracoke Express can be made at www.ncferry.org or by calling 1-800-BY-FERRY.
