Private and public entities can apply for grants to fund projects that support sustainable commercial fishing development in North Carolina.
The state Marine Fisheries Commission Commercial Resource Fund Committee and the funding committee for the state Commercial Fishing Resource Fund will accept applications starting Friday for this year’s funding cycle from the North Carolina Commercial Fishing Resource Fund.

The deadline to submit all initial proposals to the Division of Marine Fisheries is 5 p.m. June 1. Directions for submitting a proposal and an application form can be downloaded from the Division of Marine Fisheries website. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
The Commercial Fishing Resources Fund receives proceeds from the sale of commercial fishing licenses to provide these grants.
Funding is available to for projects that include biological research and surveys on fish stocks and other data necessary for development and implementation of fishery management plans; activities related to protecting, managing, conserving, enhancing and mapping critical aquatic habitats that support fish, crustaceans, and shellfish that commercial fishing activities depend for a sustainable industry; and public outreach, education and the economic benefits of sustaining the state commercial fishing industry to the economies of the coastal counties, state and country, according to the strategic plan for this fund.
Both committees will evaluate and rank proposals for consideration of funding. Grants will be subject to the state’s terms and conditions of contracting.
