The position is posted on the county’s website and the search for a new county manager is underway.
McEwen, who has served as Pender County manager since October 2019, has accepted an offer outside of Pender County. McEwen requested to work a 30-day notice but commissioners denied the request over concerns about him leaving while the county was working on its budget.
He will be required to work the full 60-day notice period in his his contract.
“I was shocked that Chad had decided to leave his current position with Pender County but wish him well in his future professional endeavors wherever they may be,” Chairman David Piepmeyer said in a statement.
