DARE COUNTY — Visitors and residents can chat with weather officials about hurricane and preparedness next month during two, free community forums.
The National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City is hosting the two forums to discuss the importance of focusing on the impacts of the storm, not just the category, and why it’s critical to prepare each and every year as well as give attendees an opportunity to ask questions.

The first forum will take place in Kill Devil Hills 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, July 8, at First Flight High School, 100 Veterans Drive.
The second forum is in Buxton 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 at Cape Hatteras Secondary School, 48576 Highway 12.
“With our close proximity to the ocean, hurricane preparedness is something every resident should know and think about each year,” said Erik Heden, NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist in a statement. “While some of our residents have experienced many storms, as recently as Michael, there are others who are just moving to our area.”
The forums in Dare County are part of a series of hurricane community forums, with the first held May 6 in Morehead City. Forums were also held May 23 in Holly Ridge and June 12 in Oriental.
