North Carolina Sea Grant will offer a free shellfish aquaculture workshop in Wilmington on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The workshop is intended for people interested in starting their own shellfish aquaculture businesses. Attendees will learn about siting shellfish operations, culture gear, harvest and storage regulations and programs available to shellfish producers.

Speakers include Ami Wilbur, director of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington research hatchery, and Jay Stryon, president of the North Carolina Shellfish Growers Association.
North Carolina Sea Grant is holding the event with the North Carolina Shellfish Growers Association, the UNC-Wilmington Center for Marine Sciences and Carteret County Community College.
While the event is free, attendance is capped at 75 people and attendees must register in advance. The event will be held in the UNC-Wilmington Center for Marine Science at 5600 Marvin K. Moss Lane.
The deadline to register is Oct. 7, 2016.
